RIBA have revealed the 14 schemes shortlisted for this year’s RIBA South East Awards, which is being held at Mercedez-Benz World in Weybridge on 17th May.

Eight of the 14 shortlisted projects are in Kent, with two in Surrey and four in Sussex. Guy Hollaway Architects have two of their projects shortlisted – Palamon Court and The Cottage, so they will be feeling good about their chances.

The RIBA South East Awards are the first step in one of the biggest architectural accolades in the business; the RIBA Stirling Prize. Last year the Stirling Prize went to the beautiful redevelopment of Hastings Pier, which was sadly burnt down in a fire. The winners of the Regional Award will then be considered for the National Award, which then puts them in contention for the coveted Stirling Prize. Could the winner be from Surrey this year?

In total, 43 buildings were entered for the region. The shortlisted buildings will be assessed by a regional jury and the winners will be announced at an awards evening and reception at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge on 17th May.

RIBA regional director James Robinson stated, ‘We have a very strong shortlist of buildings for the RIBA Regional Awards in the South and South East this year. The standard and variety of the entries is high; from private houses to the larger public and institutional buildings.

‘The shortlist also demonstrates the fantastic amount of design talent in the region, in practices both large and small, local and working nationally or, indeed, internationally.’

We’re very pleased to see that such an important awards evening is being held just a stones throw from us here at Dakota, showing the constant activity surrounding the area. Given our fantastic Dakota building we have here in Weybridge, you must get yourself down to visit our new Marketing Suite to find out why we are the best option when looking for a new space to set up your business.

We’ve picked out a few of our favourite projects in the running for the RIBA South East awards in May.
