Yesterday Prince Charles visited Heathrow Airport to celebrate the work of the security team and all the airport staff, but also to celebrate Terminal 5 turning 10. Heathrow has been operating as one of the best airports in the world for decades and us here at Dakota are lucky to be situated right by it, so we can reap all the benefits of their hard work!

The proximity of Dakota to Heathrow is an enormous benefit for coming and setting up in Weybridge and the news of a direct train from Weybridge to the airport promises even easier travel to Heathrow from Dakota, so news of the great work done by staff is music to our ears! It is great to hear that Prince Charles has visisted to celebrate the 10th birthday of Heathrow Terminal 5, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II back in 2008.

On his visit he met some of the people who have been safeguarding the UK’s busiest airport including, specialist Metropolitan Police officers, dog handling teams Border Force and some other of Heathrow Airport’s hard working staff. A section of UK Border Force that Prince Charles has a particular interest in is Border Force’s work on bio-security, which prevents diseases and contaminations coming into the country via food and animals. His visit enabled him to meet and talk with the teams tasked with bio-security.

The Prince also passionately backs the promotion of young people studying STEM subjects, which consist of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. His visit allowed him to meet some of the people partaking in various apprenticeships and training programmes within the airport.

With Heathrow Terminal 5 being the home of British Airways, there was a reception held for Prince Charles on board a British Airways 787 Dreamliner, in which he had a ‘tea party’ with the airline’s Chairman and Chief Executive Alex Cruz and other colleagues, such as crew and apprentices working with the airline.

Heathrow chief executive John Holland-Kaye said: “It was an honour and a privilege to be able to show the Prince of Wales some of the great work being done here by our colleagues and partner agencies that keep our airport safe.

“Security will always be our priority and investing in people and technologies to ensure this, happens on a continual basis.

“Heathrow is the UK’s busiest airport with 78 million passengers travelling through last year.

“It is protected by leading intelligence services, a designated police force and dedicated security colleagues that work 365 days a year.

“It is a real boost for them to meet the prince who thanked them all for their work.”

We’re very proud of the fantastic Dakota building we have here in Weybridge, so you must get yourself down to visit our new Marketing Suite to find out more.
